The Shawano School Board wasted no time in moving forward following the successful referendum vote Nov. 5. The board came to a consensus Nov. 11 to have a committee work with Hoffman Planning and Design to solidify plans for renovations and additions at its schools, with the goal of having groundbreaking ceremonies at each of the schools in the spring and hopefully have most of the work done by the first day of school in September 2026.

An organization called Reach-A-Child delivered 32 backpacks filled with books Nov. 7 to the Oconto County Sheriff’s Department to distribute to children in crisis situations. The City of Gillett is considering a six-month trial of a school resource officer (SRO) program using a city police officer in cooperation with the school district and the Oconto County Sheriff’s Department. Sheriff Todd Skarban and Superintendent Nathan Hanson appeared at the Nov.

The Oconto County Department of Health and Human Services is exploring partnerships with other counties as it separates itself from the Oconto County Commission on Aging. The commission, a nonprofit agency, contracted with the county for many years to provide elderly benefit services, meals for seniors and transportation services for the elderly.
