The price of a student lunch at Gillett schools will increase in September for the first time in five years. The school board Feb. 20 approved a recommendation to increase elementary school lunches from the current $2.85 to $2.95. Middle and high school students will go from $2.95 to $3.25.

All cattle and calves in Wisconsin as of Jan. 1 totaled 3.25 million head, according to the latest USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service – Cattle report. This was up 50,000 head from Jan. 1, 2024. Beef cows, at 275,000 head, were up 15,000 head from last year. Milk cow inventory was down 5,000 head at 1.27 million head. All heifers 500 pounds and more were up 5% at 680,000 head.

All sheep and lambs inventory in Wisconsin as of Jan. 1 totaled 80,000 head, up 2,000 head from 2024, according to the latest U.S. Department of Agriculture National Agricultural Statistics Service Sheep and Goats report. Total breeding stock, at 65,000 head, was 2% above one year ago. Market sheep and lambs increased 7% from a year ago and totaled 15,000 head.

The Oconto County Board remains skeptical about putting an ATV trailhead in the Town of Riverview. The board voted 16-13 in November to reject a $280,000 bid to build a parking lot at the site on Torsci Lane in the Town of Riverview as the first phase in development of a campground and trailhead off the Nicolet State Trail. The county land and water resources committee sent three resolutions to the board’s Feb.

Bernice M. Bossell, 96, of Wittenberg, died on Sunday, Feb. 23, 2025, at Homme Home of Wittenberg. Bernice was born on July 23, 1928, in New London, the daughter of John and Margaret (Stranen) Borchardt. On Aug. 30, 1947, Bernice was united in marriage to Clarendon Bossell in Wittenberg. He preceded her in death on June 4, 2002. Bernice enjoyed reading, knitting and being outdoors, going for walks.
