SCHS gives diplomas to 160 graduates

One door closed May 15 for about 160 graduates at Shawano Community High School’s 146th commencement ceremony, but those who spoke at the ceremony issued reminders that another door is opening to lead them to the rest of their lives.

Fifteen seniors at Wolf River Lutheran High School were lifted up and encouraged by an array of speakers at their graduation ceremony May 16.

Serrano resigns from county board

Tess Serrano has resigned from the Shawano County Board of Supervisors, accusing Chairman Tom Kautza of not respecting her when she requested committee assignment for the next two years.

“It’s simple really,” she said. “Tom didn’t consider my No. 1 choice for the committees assignments as we are required to do for the board.”

Cold nights lead to concerns for frost damage to fruits and berries

Wisconsin had 6.2 days suitable for fieldwork statewide for the week ending May 10, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.

A week with little rainfall allowed the pace of field work to accelerate. Cold nights, however, have slowed corn emergence and left some growers concerned for frost damage to fruits and berries.

Shawano-Menominee Court News

• Richard J. Schreiber, 56, Green Bay, pleaded no contest to two counts of felony child neglect and one count of misdemeanor child neglect. Judge William Kussel Jr. withheld sentencing and placed him on three years of probation with conditions.

Oconto County Court News

• Tessa R. Shepard, 38, pleaded no contest May 14 to misappropriating ID information to avoid penalty, possession of narcotic drugs and a misdemeanor count of operating while revoked. Judge Kent Hoffman imposed and stayed a jail sentence, then placed her on two years of probation with conditions.
