Husband and father Alfon J. Westphal, born in the town of Hartland on Dec. 22, 1922, to the late Fred C. and Lydia (Deede) Westphal, passed away peacefully on Oct. 18, 2013, at age 90, surrounded by his family at Birch Hill Care Center, Shawano.
Alfon and Dolores (Miss Muffet) Simon were united in marriage at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bonduel by Pastor Plischke on Sept. 14, 1946. They were inseparable companions during their 67 years together, raising six children while farming in the town of Washington. Faith played a very important role in Alfon’s life. He was active in his church and community, and he instilled these same qualities in his children. He had a zest for life, never meeting a harmonica he couldn’t play, a maple tree he couldn’t tap, or a snow bank he couldn’t conquer.
Alfon is survived by his wife, Dolores; his children, David (Rebecca), of Green Bay, Sharon (David) Strehlow, of Green Bay, Maxine (Robert) Schmidt, of Green Bay, Andrew (Annette), of Shawano, and Paul, of Minneapolis; nine grandchildren, Eric, Tami, Rodney, Stacy, Rachel, Matthew, Michael, Brittany and Miranda; 15 great-grandchildren; his brother, Kaspar (Maurice); his sister, Marian (Ted) Kupsky; his sisters-in-law, Darlene Westphal and Iann Simon.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jane (Erdmann), and siblings, Victor (Florence), Gerhardt, Harold and Mildred.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, town of Washington. Interment was at St. Paul Church Cemetery, town of Washington.
