Edward W. Ehlert, 92, of Clintonville, passed away Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013, at a local nursing home. Born on Sept. 30, 1921, in Embarrass, he was the son of the late Herman and Ella (Kruse) Ehlert.
On July 21, 1944, he was united in marriage to Betty Strong at the Zion Lutheran Church in Embarrass. The couple celebrated nearly 65 years together before Betty’s death on June 25, 2009. Edward retired from the Urban Telephone Company after managing a line crew for 42 years. When he was not working, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, curling, reading and tending to his beautiful rose garden. He also enjoyed snowmobiling at his cottage in Lakewood and loved old westerns, cowboys, horses and was a “wanna-be” cowboy. Edward was proud to have been a founder of Little League Baseball in Clintonville.
Edward is survived by two daughters, Carla (Bill Ignowski) Hedtke, of Oconto Falls, and Nancy (Michael) Grill, of Appleton; a son, Russ (Bonnie) Ehlert, of Edgerton; five grandchildren, Michael (Sally) Hedtke, of Crystal Falls, Mich., Michelle (Patrick) Virtues, of Little Suamico, Christa (Michael) Van Pay, of Sturgeon Bay, Dr. Jennifer (Michael) Robert, of Milwaukee, Sara (Vicerut) Nonzee, of Neenah; and five great-grandchildren, Jacob Virtues, Kayla Virtues, Lee Hedtke, Evan Hedtke and Addison Van Pay.
Edward was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and four sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, at Christus Lutheran Church in Clintonville with the Rev. Ben Hollingsead officiating. Burial will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Embarrass. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
