In recognition of the start of United Way annual campaigns throughout the state, Gov. Scott Walker recently designated the months of September and October as United Way Months in Wisconsin.
The proclamation highlights United Way’s work to advance the common good by focusing on the building blocks for a quality life: health, income and education. In 2012, Wisconsin’s United Ways collectively raised more than $116 million to support human services.
The United Way of Shawano County raised $68,000 last year and provided funds to 19 agencies. This year the United Way of Shawano County again has set a campaign goal of $75,000.
Linda Olson, executive director of United Way of Shawano County, urged everyone to become involved.
“In a small community like Shawano County, it is likely we all have family, friends and neighbors benefiting from programs that get support from United Way,” Olson said. “Donations to United Way are an investment to make a difference in your community.”
