Robert K. Schmidt, 94, New London, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013. Bob was born on Aug. 22, 1919, in New London, son of the late William and Lillian (Krause) Schmidt.
On March 9, 1959, he was united in marriage to Mary Coller, who preceded him in death in 1997. Bob graduated from New London Washington High School and was drafted into the U.S. Army shortly after. He returned home to maintain the family farm, which he farmed until the age of 85. After retiring from farming he was still very active outdoors. Bob was well-known for planting and maintaining trees on his property. He was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church, Appleton.
Bob was a dignified, composed and humble man of high character, who was always lending a helping hand to others. His kind and generous ways are a part of his legacy, which will carry on in those he touched.
Bob is survived by his daughters, Kay (Gerry) Patterson, New London, and Sarah (Jim) Binder, New London; sister in-law, Jean Bleck, New London; five grandchildren: Joel (Arryn) Woodliff, New London, Staci (Troy) Kelcher, Yelm, Wash., Gerad Patterson, Marathon, Fla., Brooke Binder, Appleton, and Brad Binder, Oshkosh; and two great-grandchildren, Kassie Woodliff and Rylan Kelcher. He is further survived by a niece, Marty Schmidt, and a nephew, Bob Schmidt, both of New York.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Rob; and brother and sister-in-law, William (Marian) Schmidt.
Funeral services for Bob will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Cline & Hanson Funeral Home, New London. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. and also on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Entombment will be in the Appleton Highland Memorial Park.
