Phyllis T. Hesselink, 90, 0f Shawano, passed away Wednesday morning, Nov. 6, 2013, at the Evergreen Care Center in Shawano, where she had been a resident for the past two years.
Phyllis was born April 7, 1923, in Kensal, N.D., a daughter of the late Peter and Thilda (Hanse) Hansen.
The family moved to Wisconsin when Phyllis was young, and she attended Shawano schools, graduating from Shawano High School in 1940.
On Nov. 29, 1947, she was united in marriage to Arnold Hesselink at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano. The couple spent their entire married life in Shawano. Phyllis had been employed at Chaimson’s, Schultz Brothers and at Dreier Pharmacy in Shawano. Her husband, Arnold, preceded her in death on Jan. 12, 1989.
Phyllis was a good and faithful member of St. James Lutheran Church of Shawano. She was an avid bowler and served as Association Secretary for many years. Her true love was spending time with her family.
She is survived by her three loving daughters, Alice (Michael) Megna, of Park Falls, Wis., Jean (Pastor Thomas) Myhre, of Withee, Wis., and Susan (Thomas) True of Shawano. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Jason (Jenny) Megna, Joseph (Andrea) Megna, Sam (April Sager) and Bethany (Erik Meyer) Myhre, John White IV (April Carlson) and Amy (Mark) Bates; 12 great-grandchildren; and three sisters-in-law, Adeline Hesselink, Arlene Hesselink and Donna Franke. She is further survived by nieces and nephews.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her brother, Clyde Hansen, and a sister, Cecilia, in infancy.
Funeral services for Phyllis Hesselink will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 11, at St. James Lutheran Church of Shawano. Pastor Ted Andrada will officiate. Interment will be in the Lake Drive Cemetery, town of Wescott. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.
