Dorothy D. Koeller, 93, formerly of Shawano, passed away peacefully early Wednesday morning, May 14, 2014, at Lynn Care Center in Front Royal, Va. Dorothy had lived in Virginia for the past two years.
The former Dorothy Rambo was born on Feb. 1, 1921, in Milwaukee, a daughter of the late William and Rose (Vieau) Rambo. At an early age, Dorothy moved to Shawano from Milwaukee.
On Nov. 26, 1938, she was united in marriage to Alvin Koeller at St. James Lutheran Church of Shawano. Following their marriage, Dorothy and Alvin, along with Reynold and Myrtle Zoglman, built the Pine Acre Motel in Shawano. The couple owned and operated the Pine Acre until 1972. Alvin Koeller preceded Dorothy in death on Aug. 22, 1989.
Dorothy was a longtime member of St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano. She was also a member of the Shawano American Legion Auxiliary. Dorothy’s true love was spending time with family. She also loved to travel.
Dorothy is survived by her loving children, Loretta (Clarence) Hohner. of Winchester, Va., Melvin (Lindalee) Koeller, of Erie, Colo., Diane (Eugene) Zoglman, of Addison, Ill., and Judy (Thomas) Born, of Oak Creek; 11 grandchildren, Kim Marie (Michael) Kraus, of Las Cruces, N.M., Shirley Koeller, of Lafayette, Colo., Sharon Koeller, of LaCombe, La., Suzanna Koeller, of Littleton, Colo., Leslie Cole, of Longmont, Colo., Adam (Jennifer) Koeller, of Phoenix, Ariz., Shane (Chermille) Zoglman, of Wauconda, Ill., Todd (Jennifer) Zoglman, of Gilbert, Ariz., Wendy (Darrell) Pratt, of Bartlett, Ill., and Heather (Victor) Nino, of Franklin; 14 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Leonard (Evelyn) Rambo, of Antigo, and two sisters, Marjorie Weeks, of McKinney, Texas, and Delores (Charles) Thunander, of Milwaukee. She is further survived by her in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alvin; a grandson, Timothy and his wife, Cynthia Hohner; her sisters, Marcella Wegner, Patsy Hagen, Geraldine Smits, Lorraine Kriescher and Mary Theda; and her brothers, Lester Rambo, Roy Seidlitz and one infant brother.
Funeral services for Dorothy Koeller will be held on Monday, May 19, at 11 a.m. at St. James Lutheran Church of Shawano. Pastor Ted Andrada will officiate. Interment will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Shawano. Relatives and friends may call at Schroeder-Mickelson Funeral Service of Shawano on Sunday from 4-7 p.m. and at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until the hour of service.
