Donna Milbauer organizes the book sale, which will be held next week, at the Shawano City-County Library.
She was born in Clintonville, graduating from Clintonville High School. Milbauer worked at FWD for 10 ½ years and then Alliant Energy for 26 ½ years.
Milbauer and her husband of 38 years, Jerry, live on Shawano Lake and have three children. They like to travel and spend three months in Florida in the winter. Milbauer is also a member of the Shawano Lake Lioness and the Marion Lioness.
Q How long have you been a member of Friends of the Library and how did you get started?
A “I’ve been on the board approximately six years. A friend asked me to be on the board after I moved here. I was on the board in Marion and it was a natural fit for me.”
Q How do you help?
A “I have worked all the fundraisers and help plan them. It’s part of the board to make decisions on what we will do for the library. I’ve always worked with the book sale.”
Q How is it decided what books to sell?
A “We get a lot of donated books that are put out. The library goes through books and those that haven’t been checked out, we put out. We make room for new books. We work with the library staff for the sale. The garage where we store the bookmobile is full of books. We pick out some of the nicer books and put a $1 on them. The others are 50 cents.”
Q How is the money used?
A “The money is put into our treasury and every year the library gives us a wish list where we can buy things for the library, like items for the summer reading for children and Library at 7. We give donations to all our branches. We send them some assistance money.”
Q Why do you volunteer?
A “I think the library is very important for everyone out there and it’s free. My husband and I get movies free of charge. It’s a great facility for everyone to use the computers, and it doesn’t cost them anything.”
