Trumen R. Thorson, 90, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, July 7, 2014, at the Shawano Medical Center.
Trumen was born on Oct. 15, 1923, a son of the late Thomas and Rena (Knoff) Thorson. Trumen attended the Riverside Grade School in Lunds. He was confirmed at Jerusalem Lutheran Church in Lunds in 1938. He attended Bonduel High School, graduating in 1942.
Following high school, Trumen entered the United States Army, serving with the Army Air Corps from 1943-1946. He was stationed in New Guinea, Australia, the Philippines and Japan. While he was home on leave, he married his high school sweetheart, the former Betty Dobratz, on March 17, 1944, in Bonduel.
Upon returning from service the couple made their home in the town of Waukechon. He had been employed at the Four Wheel Drive in Clintonville for over 38 years. He retired in 1989. Following his retirement, Trumen and Betty moved to Shawano.
Trumen was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Shawano. Trumen loved to play softball, golf, bowl, hunt and fish. His favorite pastime was spending time with his family. His wife, Betty, preceded him in death on Feb. 9, 2006.
Trumen is survived by his 11 children, Sherry (Chuck) Reinke, of Shawano, Randall (Judy) Thorson, of Hortonville, Jana (Dennis) Clark, of Red River, Thomas (Cheryl) Thorson, of Shawano, Lynn (Mark) Born, of Clintonville, Deborah (Michael) Trinko, of Tilleda, Valery (Steve) Webster, of Shawano, Penny (Bill) Lee, of Bonduel, Robin (Jack) Ruffert, of Cecil, Lisa Breau (special friend Wayne), of Green Bay, and Scott ( special friend Terri) Thorson, of Shawano. Trumen was blessed with 22 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Trumen was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; parents, Thomas and Rena; a brother, Gordon Thorson; one infant brother and one infant sister. Four stepsisters also preceded him in death, Inez (Jack) Nachtwey, Lucille (Aubrey) Smith, Gladys (Richard) Peterson and Helen (Bernerd) Jerack, as well as a great-granddaughter, Alyssa Thorson, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Trumen Thorson will be held on Thursday, July 10, at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church of Shawano. Pastor Giselle Berninghaus will officiate. Interment with full military honors performed by Shawano AMVETS Post 10 will be in the Jerusalem Lutheran Cemetery, Lunds. Relatives and friends may call at Zion Lutheran Church on Thursday from 9 a.m. until the hour of service.
