The Shawano Lake Lions and Lioness clubs have been conducting vision screening at Hillcrest Primary School in Shawano.
The screening includes new technology called a spot camera. The camera captures a picture of the child’s eyes within seconds. It reveals problems the child might have with their vision and prints a report stating whether their vision is either in or out of range.
It also recommends the parent to take their child to the eye doctor for a more complete eye exam if there is a problem.
Many children, and their parents, do not know they have a problem unless they are screened. Identifying vision problems at an early age increases students’ success in the classroom.
The clubs have screened more than 500 students in Shawano and will be going into the parochial schools in January.
