The Rev. Marvin James Richter

The Rev. Marvin James Richter, 67, of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Dec. 7, 2014. Marvin was born on Sept. 22, 1947, in Shawano, a son of the late Laverne and Elvira Richter. He graduated from Shawano High School in 1965 before continuing his education and graduating from North Central University in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1969 and 1970. He was ordained as a minister with the Assemblies of God in 1976. Marvin continued his education with a Master of Divinity from The Assemblies of God Theological Seminary in Springfield, Missouri in 1980, and a Master of Arts in Counseling from North American Baptist Seminary in Sioux Falls, South Dakota in 1981. Marvin pastored in Minnesota, South Dakota, Wisconsin, and New Jersey. He also taught at Central Indian Bible College in Mobridge, South Dakota, Trinity Bible College in Ellendale, North Dakota, and Metropolitan Bible Institute in Newark, New Jersey. He was also the principal at Vailsburg Christian Academy in Newark. After retiring from active ministry, Marvin worked part time at Home Depot in Easton, Pennsylvania. Marvin was a shepherd to many as he pastored and mentored others throughout his life of ministry. Marvin is survived by his wife, Mari-Lynn Richter, of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania; his children, Michael (Emily) Richter, of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, Micah (Jill) Richter, of Easton, Pennsylvania, and Michelle (Drew) Sack of Nazareth, Pennsylvania. His legacy will be carried on by his nine grandchildren, Gleris, Reid, Isaiah, Misha, Natalie, Noelle, Caleb, and Benjamin. He is further survived by his brother, Howard (Phoebe) Richter, of Shawano; sisters Marian (Fred) Pape, of Shawano, and Arlene (Jerry) Wilson, of Marinette; sisters-in-law, Donna Richter, of Shawano, and Audrey Richter, of Luck; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Laverne and Elvira Richter, brothers Roger, Gordon, and Lowell Richter, and a sister and brother-in-law Doris and Ira Bruchs. Funeral services for the Rev. Marvin Richter will be held on Saturday, Dec. 13 at 10:30 a.m. at River Valley Church in Shawano. Pastor Pat Weber, Pastor Laverne Weber and Pastor Arden Adamson will officiate. Interment will be in the Greenleaf Cemetery, Marion. Relatives and friends may call at Mickelson Funeral and Cremation Service of Shawano on Friday, Dec. 12 from 4-7 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions go to the ministry fund at Faith Community Church, Easton, Pennsylvania, or to the ALS Foundation in the name of Marvin Richter.
