Preparations for Easter take top priority

The calendar turned to April this past week, and we survived any attempts at bad April Fools’ jokes. March was a mixed month of warmer-than-expected temperatures and some colder-than-wanted temperatures. Funny, once it gets warm outside and then changes to cold, most people start grumbling. They forget that, had it been in the 30s on some of those zero-and-under February days, it would have felt like a heat wave. I have taken a few forays around my yard, looking for any sign of a daffodil poking up its head, but haven’t seen one yet. I have pretty well given up on the tulips, because deer or gophers must have eaten the bulbs. Every year, more of them disappear, and there might not be any left by now. A nice thunder shower might wake up the plants, as well as the grass, and get the trees to leaf out. I love that time of spring, when there are so many different shades of green bursting forth. It is a feast for the eyes, for sure. Little by little, I have been making preparations for Easter. The house is cleaned in increments, dusting can be done a bit ahead of time, tackling some closets that have been neglected can be done while I am in the cleaning mood, which doesn’t happen very often. I purchased a new vacuum cleaner the other day. I only have an area rug in the living room, and yet the thought of dragging the old, non-corner-turning, heavy clunker around, when I already have an aching back and shoulders was overwhelming to me. So, now I have one more vacuum cleaner that I will likely learn to hate after a few uses. I spent a good share of last weekend cleaning through the donated items for mission quilting for our church. The boxes and bags of odds and ends were piled in my basement since early January, but I have finished piecing together the backings. Now there are boxes of backings ready to go to church, and the odds and ends that were left over, I gave to the lady who cuts our quilt blocks for the tops. While the mission quilt items are now under control, the rest of my quilting has been put on hold for the moment. I know I have more fabric than I will ever sew into quilts, but how do I downsize? Should I have a rummage sale? How do I choose what to save and what to keep? When will I find the energy to get all of this done? Some of these questions have been floating around in my mind for a year or more. Every time I make a decision, I seem to change my mind at a later time. All of the plans I made to help while away those long winter days have not been carried out. My columns are all still loose on a shelf and not neatly put into a scrapbook. The areas of the house I intended to clean by throwing away the stuff that is no longer wanted, needed and no one else would ever want, never got completed. I guess there is always a day or time when those things will get taken care of. Tomorrow is Easter, and I look forward to attending church, rising and singing: “Christ the Lord is risen today, Alleluia!”
