Dean E. Lieg

Dean E. Lieg, 78, of Shawano, passed away unexpectedly Thursday morning, May 21, 2015, at the Appleton Medical Center in Appleton. Dean was born June 15, 1936, in Milwaukee, a son of the late Edmund and Floy (Owens) Lieg. He attended St. Rose Catholic School in Milwaukee. He later entered the United States Army and served his country from 1952 until 1955. He was stationed in Korea. Upon returning from service, he was employed at the E.R. Wagner Manufacturing Company as a punch-press machine operator and in the tool and die department. Dean retired after 32 years of service. In 1998, following his retirement, he moved to Shawano. Dean was of the Catholic faith. He was a member of the Shawano AMVETS Post 10. He loved to fish and take an occasional trip to the casino. Survivors include his soul mate for the past 36 years, Faye Borchert, of Shawano; her children, Pat Steidl, Neal Borchert, Michael Borchert and Steven Borchert, all of Kaukauna; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and one brother, Mitchell Lieg. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Barbara. A memorial service for Dean will be held on Wednesday, June 3, at 1 p.m. at Mickelson Funeral and Cremation Service of Shawano. Deacon Jim Lonick will be the celebrant. Shawano AMVETS Post 10 will conduct full military honors. Relatives and friends may call after noon on Wednesday until the hour of service.
