Marion High School senior Cassidy Detert advanced to the WIAA Division 3 state championship next weekend with two first-place finishes at the sectional meet Friday in Rosholt.
Detert won the discus with a throw of 130 feet, 9 inches and the shot put with a toss of 40 feet, 9.25 inches.
Gresham senior Drew Payne won a sectional title in the triple jump, going 43-08.00.
Menominee Indian qualified two athletes for state. Gordon James qualified in the 100 meters, placing fourth, with a time of 11.26, breaking the school record he set last year. He also placed second in the 200 with a time of 23.06. Alphonso Smith placed third in the shot put with a throw of 47 feet, 1.25 inches to qualify for state.
