Stella Bigfire, 88, of Neopit, died Friday, Nov. 27, 2015, in Shawano.
Stella was born on May 24, 1927. She was united in marriage to Elmer Bigfire Sr., and he preceded her in death on Oct. 25, 1988. Stella was a teacher and taught the native Menominee language. Beginning in her youth, Stella was very family oriented and instilled that into her children. She was a member of the Menominee Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Neopit.
Stella enjoyed doing word searches and crossword puzzles and was a talented seamstress, but loved nothing more than spending time with those she loved most.
Stella is survived by her sons, William (Roxanna) Bigfire, of Keshena, and Randall Bigfire, of Neopit; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one sister, Rose Nahwahquaw; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer; her children, Elmer Bigfire Jr., Regina Tepiew, Myron James, Clare Jean, Clifford John and Allen George; her sisters and brothers, Eleanor Pyawasit, Lavina Shawano, Joseph Nahwahquaw, Leon Nahwahquaw and Edwin Nahwahquaw.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 30, 2015, at Menominee Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Zoar with the Rev. John Hartley officiating. Burial will be in Nahwahquaw Field. Visitation will be held at the church from 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 28, 2015, until the time of the services on Monday.
