WIAA makes second conference realignment proposal

Oconto Falls High School would join a 10-team Eastern Valley Conference in a proposed conference realignment plan recently released by the WIAA. Under the plan, which is a revision of a plan released in April, Oconto Falls would be joined by current Bay Conference teams Marinette, Denmark and Luxemburg-Casco in the Eastern Valley, expanding that conference to 10 teams, while the Bay shrinks to eight teams. Under the plan, the Eastern Valley would lose Appleton Xavier to the Bay. In the Bay, Shawano, West De Pere, New London and Seymour would remain and the conference would add Green Bay East and Green Bay West from the Fox River Classic Conference and Menasha from the Fox Valley Association. The plan would make Oconto Falls the fifth-largest school in the Eastern Valley, with an enrollment of 530 students. In the April proposal, which did not include Marinette (with an enrollment of 625) and Luxemburg-Casco (579), Oconto Falls would have been the third-largest school in the Eastern Valley. Waupaca (725) is the largest school under both proposals. Wrightstown (455), who would join the Eastern Valley from the Olympian Conference, would be the smallest school. While the realignment plan includes the Marinette & Oconto Conference, no changes were made to the conference under either proposal. Athletic directors and WIAA officials will disscuss the proposed changes at the area meeting Sept. 25 at Fox Valley Lutheran High School.
