The Suring School District faculty has selected Kathy (Regal) Runge as the recipient of the 2013-2014 Educator of Excellence Award presented by Nicolet Oconto Retired Teachers Association.
A graduate of Suring School, Runge taught all of her 25 years in her home district.
She graduated from St. Norbert College in De Pere in 1989 and, after spending a few years in the second- and third-grade classrooms, now finds herself at home with first-grade students. She said she chose a career in teaching because she enjoys working with children and because she was a student of some very inspiring teachers.
Her love of athletics led her to coach varsity volleyball at one time, and she now serves as Suring’s youth basketball coordinator. She is the chairperson of the school district’s retirement banquets.
Runge and her husband, Martin, have been married for 26 years and are parents of Luke, 19, Marcus (Mark), 16, and Linzy, 13. The family attends Christ Lutheran Church in Hintz and loves camping trips and kayaking. Runge spends time gardening, attending her children’s games and doing activities with her husband.
