The city of Shawano’s agreement with Shawano Ambulance Service is changing its terms after 33 years of providing medical transport for local residents.
The changes are coming at the request of Pat Trinko, the service’s executive director. In a letter to City Clerk Lesley Nemetz, Trinko noted the agreement only has a few adjustments that need to be made at the recommendation of the ambulance service’s attorney.
One of the changes was requiring a 90-day notice of either side to issue a notice of nonrenewal. Previously, the time period was 60 days.
Another change was to the amount of compensation the ambulance service receives. The agreement had originally a set annual amount, which was $36,840 in 1993, that needed to be paid in quarterly installments. Now, the city will need to pay a per capita rate using the Wisconsin Department of Administration Demographic Services Center’s final population estimate, which is usually released no later than Oct. 10 of the year preceding the contract term.
The new agreement also strikes out requirements for corporate seals and multiple witnesses, as such practice with contracts have become less prevalent.
The agreement was presented Sept. 4 to the Shawano Finance Committee for discussion only, as the final agreement is expected to come later this year.
