Gillett board picks new officers, meeting date

Members of the Gillett School Board picked a new president and treasurer May 15. Longtime Treasurer Cliff Gerbers and former President Jamie Young decided not to run for reelection in April. Trisha Ondik and Lorie Beyer were elected to succeed them on the board. Board member Jamie Heroux was chosen as the new president in a 4-3 vote over Robin Banaszynski, who had served as vice president with Young. Beyer was the unanimous choice to serve as treasurer, and board member Kimberly Schaal was elected vice president. Ondik was elected school board clerk in another 4-3 vote over veteran board member Nanette Mohr. The board also voted to move its regular meetings to 6:30 p.m. on the third Wednesday of the month after gathering on the third Thursday for many years. With the sound of musicians tuning their instruments for a spring concert echoing through the Gillett Secondary School corridors, Schaal suggested that the board consider meeting on a night that doesn’t interfere with sports and other school events. “It would be easier for the community to be a part of these meetings,” Schaal said, and her motion passed on a voice vote.
