Master planning kicks off for county buildings

Venture Architects has kicked off its master planning phase for Shawano County, with schematic designs of new buildings to follow by the end of summer. Corey Beyer, with Venture Architects of Milwaukee, told the public property committee May 8 he has laid out the process for which the company was hired. “For master planning, a couple months here in May and June … eventually we’ll interview all our departments, get some feedback from them, collect all the data that we need,” he said. Much information has already been gathered by The Samuels Group. “We’ll also be preparing a space program, which will indicate existing square footages of each room, and then … we’ll make recommendations of what that should be (for each department),” Beyer said. With those numbers, the company would begin to create schematic drawings for the buildings that can include the courthouse, the sheriff’s department (new justice center), the Huber facility and the public library. Kurt Berner of The Samuels Group reminded the committee Venture Architects was only contracted for master planning and schematic design, even though Beyer put together a timeline for design development, creating construction documents, bidding and awarding of contracts, and construction (with substantial completion estimated for July 2028). All dates are subject to change. After the master planning and schematic design phase, there will be a priority list for the committee to review. “We would anticipate the committee would make a recommendation to the board, and the board would have to make a decision if they want to move forward with a phase one,” Berner said. kpasson@newmedia-wi.com
