The importance of prenatal care cannot be understated, as it is crucial for the health and safety of the expecting mother and the baby she is carrying.
Unfortunately, not everyone is aware of, or has access to, the resources that can help ensure a safe delivery and early childhood.
To encourage continuous education around this topic, a local organization will host an event to help provide community members with resources and advice during this crucial point in a child’s development.
The Menominee Tribal Clinic will host a community baby shower May 21 at the Menominee Casino Resort, N277 Highway 47-55, Keshena. Doors will open at 7:30 a.m., with free morning snacks and registration at 8 a.m.
The event is open to Menominee County and Shawano County residents who are expecting a baby or caring for a child 3 or younger.
This will be an all-day event featuring educational speakers in the morning, followed by a resource fair in the afternoon. Speaker topics will include:
• The importance of prenatal care and well child exams.
• Milestones of child development.
• Drug endangered children.
• Fetal alcohol spectrum disorder.
Attendees will also have the chance to learn more about local agencies that provide services to young families at the afternoon resource fair, which will include vendors specializing in topics such as childhood services, addiction assistance, family services, rehabilitation and more.
Participants will also be given a trail passport to complete during the resource fair, which asks attendees to receive stamps from 12 vendors.
Completed passports will be entered into a drawing for door prizes, including strollers, wagons, tricycles, balance bikes, sandboxes, water tables, children’s picnic tables, car seats, pack ’n plays, toddler basketball hoops, baby quilts, nutribullets and baby activity centers.
The resource fair will also feature three shower games where attendees can compete to win an assortment of toddler-friendly family board games. There will also be a free lunch and snacks included in the day’s activities. No pre-registration is required. The first 200 participants to arrive will receive a free T-Shirt and tote bag.
