Helen Therese Gysling, 91, of Gillett, formerly of Minnetonka, Minnesota, died at home with family by her side, Saturday evening, Aug. 24, 2024, and went to be with her Savior.
She was born May 20, 1933, in Bern, Switzerland, to Charles and Marie (Nyffeler) Favez. She grew up in Switzerland, where she completed her schooling and began her engagement to Walter Gysling. After immigrating to the United States, they were married in New York City on May 26, 1956. They eventually settled in Minnetonka, Minnesota, where they raised their three children and lived for over 50 years.
Helen embraced a personal relationship with her Savior and loved supporting local missionaries. She will be remembered for her many acts of service, specifically the wonderful meals she prepared for others in her community. Helen’s favorite pastimes included baking, gardening, knitting, crocheting, sewing and especially walking, hiking and skiing.
Survivors are her husband of 68 years; three children, Peter (Kim) Gysling, Roger (Tina) Gysling and Ruth (Rev. Paul) Carlson; eight grandchildren, Rev. Jonathan (Stacy) Carlson, David (Miranda) Carlson, Holly (Joel) Ortman, Amber (Rev. Tyler) Berberia, Etienne (Fabienne) Gysling, Savannah Gysling, Amandine Gysling and Chiara Gysling; seven great-grandchildren, Violet, Jace, Micah, Adriana, Julia, Caleb and Evelyn; and cousin/special friends, Dori (Walter) Rhorbach.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Marie; and sister, Madeline Schlabach.
Visitation will be held after 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, 2024, at Hillside Assembly of God in Gillett until the time of service. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the Revs. Paul and Jonathan Carlson officiating. Burial will take place at Wanderers Rest Cemetery in Gillett. Jones Funeral Service in Oconto Falls is serving the Gysling family.
