Elroy W. Peters

Elroy W. Peters, 87, Abrams, died Saturday morning, Aug. 10, 2024, at home. He was born Sept. 16, 1936, in Green Bay to William and Elsie (Behnke) Peters. Elroy grew up in Abrams where he attended elementary school, graduating from Oconto Falls High School with the class of 1954. Following graduation, he worked on the Green Bay & Western Railroad for five years. On Dec. 28, 1959, he entered the U.S. Air Force and served for four years during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Upon his honorable discharge from the military, Elroy went to work for Fairmont Foods in Green Bay and continued to operate the family farm. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. Upon his retirement on March 14, 1998, he enjoyed riding his bicycle on the Wisconsin State Trail system and parts of Minnesota, especially the Red Cedar and Chippewa trails in western Wisconsin and putting on as many as 150 miles per week. Survivors are one brother, the Rev. Carl (Marlene) Peters, Green Bay; six nieces and nephews; 13 great-nieces and -nephews; and 16 great-great nieces and -nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, the Rev. Earl (Sharon) Peters. Private burial services will take place in Brookside Cemetery in the Town of Pensaukee. Jones Funeral Service in Oconto Falls is serving the Peters family. In lieu of flowers, memorial funds may be sent to Rawhide Youth Services (Rawhide Inc. E7475 Rawhide Road, New London, WI 54961).
