To the editor:
I received my third anonymous cowardly letter in the mail a couple of weeks ago.
What makes this one different is instead of addressing just me, the coward also asked that my freedom of speech be stopped and that the Oconto County Times Herald be denied their freedom of the press, asking them to stop printing my letters to the editor.
My letters are timely, of local interest and different from the cowards they are signed. I stand by every word I have printed. I challenge the writer of this letter to do the same. Come out of the shadows and write a letter and sign your name to it.
In the second from last line in this two-page letter, the author writes this gem: “We hope someone on the board this spring has the stones to propose dual sports to learn from this and make better guidelines and allow dual sports again.” This is incredible.
Are they saying now that the Suring Public School District should have dual sports? I also am calling on the school board to allow for dual sports, but not in spring, but now so a deserving student can finish his career out. Who would be hurt if Trent was allowed to compete?
They have called me to be banned from the school. They have called my son, Trent, lazy for going over and above. It is incredible the attacks on our character.
Dual sports started in Suring in 2000 when Isaiah Houska was in track and WIAA-sanctioned golf. I believe the multiple years of participating in dual sports gave Isaiah the skills to run one of the larger employers in Oconto County. Also, Klint Hischke when he participated in track and qualified for sectionals in golf. There are some very ambitious girls that play varsity basketball and club volleyball.
Trent has won many awards in both wrestling and basketball during his time as a dual sport athlete. Yet the writer of this bogus letter says he couldn’t have because Suring sports are on bottom of the conference. Proving they need change. Writer also states other schools don’t allow wrestling and basketball to happen at the same time. This is false. I know of Coleman and Bay Port athletes that have. Is it rare? Yes. Is it something to be applauded? Yes. Not harassed or limited. Remember it is for the children.
