Ida L. Hanson

Ida Laraine Hanson (Ireland), longtime resident of Kenai, Alaska, and retired elementary teacher at Sears Elementary, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2023, at 79 years old. Laraine was born in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania, on Sept. 23, 1943. With unending curiosity and a love for driving down the unbeaten path, Laraine left her dad’s farm and her small-town home in Pennsylvania in 1968 and headed to Alaska. She made her life and career there, raising a family of five and prospering through hardship with Alaskan grit. Laraine dedicated her life to family first, with her teaching career an extension of that family commitment. She was a mother for all of her students and teacher to each of her children. Her giving truly had no bounds. Laraine was preceded in death by her parents, William and Virginia (Lemley) Ireland, from Waynesburg, Pennsylvania; and her brother, Gary Ireland. Laraine is survived by her husband, Glenn Hanson; five children; a multitude of grandchildren; sister, Loretta (John) Garber; and brothers, John (Robin) Ireland and Bill (Patti) Ireland. A memorial service will be held at Kenai Bible Chapel on July 22, from 2-4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to ABC Life Choices or Central Peninsula Garden Club. Arrangements made by Peninsula Memorial Chapel.
