Blood, plasma needed urgently for COVID-19 cases
The Community Blood Center is urging all healthy and eligible blood donors to donate blood, platelets and convalescent plasma as the number of COVID-19 cases increase throughout the state. CBC is the sole provider of all blood, platelets and plasma, including convalescent plasma, to nearly 30 hospitals throughout Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. One in seven individuals entering a hospital will rely on a blood transfusion.
DNR program accepting seedling orders
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources’ Reforestation Program is accepting seedling orders from Wisconsin forest landowners for trees and shrubs to be planted in spring 2021. Seedlings grown at the state nurseries are used for reforestation and conservation plantings on private, industrial and state/county forest lands.
Website update helps farmers conduct business with USDA
An update to farmers.gov offsite link image now provides access to farmers and ranchers who are members of an entity, as well as individuals and entities with powers of attorney, to conduct online business with USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service. Nominations are now being accepted for the 2020 Wisconsin Woman Veteran of the Year award. As part of Wisconsin’s commitment to women veterans, the award recognizes those who have compiled a record of exemplary service as a military member, veteran and member of the community. “Women have played a critical role in our military history and often continue to lead as veterans,” said Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Mary Kolar.
