About a dozen residents of Indianwood Drive and Ridge Road asked the Oconto Falls City Council on Sept. 9 to repair and repave their streets.
According to the residents, the streets of the neighborhood on the city’s southeast side were not paved properly after a sewer update in 2011, and are full of potholes and cracks.
The residents covered a small table in the council chambers with photos depicting the problem areas and presented a petition signed by 33 residents asking that the road issues be addressed.
“It looks like the road is from an abandoned ghost town,” said Crystal Dory, who lives on Ridge Road.
She said the pavement is unsafe for kids riding bikes, runners and walkers who use the road because there are no sidewalks.
“When you don’t have sidewalks, it’s twice as dangerous,” said Bernice Stuckey, another of the Ridge Road residents at the meeting. “I personally have fallen down twice within the last few years.”
RaeAnne Rouse said a neighbor in a wheelchair was stuck in a pothole on the street.
“That alone should warrant the repair of that street,” she said.
Drainage is also a concern, because water pools in some yards after heavy rainstorms, residents said.
Mayor Brad Rice said the neighborhood’s concerns will be considered by the Finance Committee this fall as it budgets funds for street work.
“This area deserves some consideration. The condition is pretty tough,” Alderman Kevin Rusch said.
