Longtime Navarino Town Chairman and Shawano County Board Supervisor Kevin Conradt died Jan. 3. He was 67.
Known to many as “Covey” and “Mr. Navarino,” Conradt was first elected town chairman at age 29 and represented the Navarino area on the county board for about 30 years.
He also served as president of the Navarino Athletic Association and was involved with the Navarino-Lessor Fire Department and EMS.
“I was on Facebook with him, and every Friday when they (Navarino Rangers) would have games Friday night, he’d be posting something about cooking burgers, people come down to the ball diamond for fresh burgers,” County Supervisor Rick Giese said. “You drove though Navarino, you look down a side street, he’d be driving by on a golf cart or something checking everything out.”
Conradt was born in 1957 in Clintonville and graduated from Bonduel High School in 1975.
He worked various construction jobs as a young man and then went on to work for Nordberg’s. After a brief stint at tech school, he became the office manager for Olson’s Rural Electric.
Conradt was a lifelong member of Ascension Lutheran Church in Navarino where he served as the treasurer for the cemetery board.
“I can’t say enough good about him. He did so much for Navarino and that area,” County Board Chairman Tom Kautza said. “He always did his homework when he’d come to the board here. Common sense. Level-headed. You couldn’t find a better board member.”
A memorial service was held Jan. 10 at Ascension Lutheran Church in the Town of Navarino with the Rev. Mark Sabin officiating. Inurnment will take place in the parish cemetery later in spring.
The service was recorded on the Facebook pages of Eberhardt-Stevenson Funeral Home and Crematory of Clintonville and Ascension Lutheran Church.
“He’s leaving a pretty good size hole to fill,” Kautza said.
