Merlyn “Bob” Carley, 86, Bowler, peacefully went to his heavenly home on Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at his home. He was the son of the late Hiram and Frances (Kolpack) Carley.
Bob proudly served his country in the Navy during World War II in Pearl Harbor, Okinawa and Guam.
On April 16, 1950, he married Mary Hull at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Bowler. They were married 53 years until she preceded him in death on Oct. 31, 2004. He worked for over 30 years as a welder at 4-Wheel Drive, Clintonville, until his retirement in 1990.
Bob loved hunting and fishing with his sons. He enjoyed playing sports, baseball and basketball, which his father encouraged him to do. His family enjoyed watching him play on the All-Star Team. He was always our “Hero.”
What a blessing it was for the Carley family when Bob’s special friend, Nancy, came into his life. She brought that beautiful smile back that he lost when his beloved Mary died. “Thank you, Nancy.” On July 7, 2007, Bob and Nancy were united in a backyard ceremony.
Survivors include Nancy Staszak Carley, Bowler; his children, Kerry (Raymond) Murphy, Tommy Hi (special friend Debbie Grosskopf) Carley and Randy (Diana) Carley, all of Bowler; six grandchildren, Ryan Murphy, Heather (special friend Bert Moede Jr.) Murphy, Arielle (Nick) Browne, Franchesca (special friend Luis) Carley, Collin Carley and Alanah Carley; four beautiful great-grandchildren, Cienna Moede, Bert Moede III, Lyla Browne and Camila Vasquez; one sister, Karla Krueger, Green Bay; one sister-in-law, Corrine (Frank) Heisz, Prairie du Chien; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents and wife, Bob was preceded in death by his brothers-in-law, Lee Krueger, Dick, Jim and Mike Hull, and sisters-in-law, Patricia Hull and Jeanne Scott.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 17, 2014, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Bowler. The Rev. Michael Schram will officiate. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Bowler, with military rites conducted by the American Legion. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
