To the editor:
After reading a articles in The Shawano Leader and on the WTCH website, I have a few questions that our County Board should ask:
1. Why can Menominee Tribal Police eradicate over 900 marijuana plants on Aug. 14, and Sheriff Wright keeps on insisting that we have to keep every plant harvested?
Sheriff Wright says that there is a mold problem with the marijuana and it’s not safe for his people to go into the building were it’s stored. Maybe Sheriff Wright should take a lesson from the tribal police and destroy most of them. This would eliminate two problems, the mold and storage space.
2. Why are there two bond payments from March 9 missing and there is no accountability as to what happened to this money?
3. Why did it take so long for this missing money from the Sheriff’s Department to come to light? After all, this money was missing in March and the taxpayers didn’t find out till five months later.
4. How can you lose money from the Sheriff Department to the Shawano courthouse? It just is a walk across the street. Sheriff Wright says that he has implemented a new policy, but shouldn’t that policy have been in effect all along? Common sense should dictate that you would take care of the deposits before you did any other business.
5. How much money did it cost to do an internal investigation on the missing deposits?
6. Why wasn’t there an external investigation? After all, the money was missing from his department and the incident should have automatically been turned over to some outside agency to investigate for wrong doing.
These are questions that should be asked and answered.
In the coming weeks we will see if the County Board will sweep these questions under the table by going into closed session or actually let the taxpayers know what the answers are.
