LeRoy “Toby” Jones, 92, of Clintonville, passed away Monday, June 16, 2014, at Shawano Medical Center.
LeRoy Frances Jones was born on Oct. 31, 1921, in Clintonville to Obediah and Margaret (Roberts) Jones. He was united in marriage on Feb. 10, 1942, to Evelyn E. Tyrrell at St. Rose Catholic Church, Clintonville. Toby entered the U.S. Army and served during World War II from 1942-1943. He returned home and started working as a carpenter with Rohrer Lumber, later becoming Torborg’s Clintonville Lumber, for close to 50 years, retiring in the early 1980s.
The couple liked motorcycle riding in their younger years. Toby was a devoted husband and caregiver to his wife for over 10 years in her battle with Alzheimer’s disease. His wife, Evelyn, preceded him in death on Nov. 25, 2005. He was a lifelong member of St. Rose Catholic Church and a 60-plus-year member of American Legion Post 63. Toby was an avid Green Bay Packers fan and he liked fixing all kinds of lawnmowers in his spare time. He will be remembered most as a loving husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family.
Survivors include two daughters, Leone (David) Onesti, of Wittenberg, and Lori (Daniel) Bartz, of Clintonville; seven grandchildren, Luke (Kristi) Onesti, Paula (Steve) Hutchison, Charlene (Bruce) Milavitz, Jason (Nikki) Onesti, Justin (Natalie) Onesti, Alicia (Craig) Rekoske and Jeremy Bartz; abd 13 great-grandchildren, Katelyn and Amanda Onesti, Alexandra and Nicholas Hutchison, Stephanie, Sarah, Aaron, Hannah and Marissa Milavitz, Makenna, Maddison and Macey Onesti, and Elijah Rekoske. He is further survived by his sister, Winifred Welter, of Clintonville. a sister-in-law, Ellen Tyrrell, of Milwaukee; many other relatives and friends.
Toby was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Evelyn; a daughter, Lee Grace Jones; a great-granddaughter, Nevaeh Grace Onesti; a sister, Jeanette Jones; a sister-in-law, Grace Peterson; and four brothers-in-law, Gordon Malliet, Wesley Tyrrell, Ward Peterson and John Welter.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, June 21, at 11 a.m. at St. Rose Catholic Church, Clintonville. The Rev. Jason Marco will officiate, and burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Military honors will be provided at the cemetery by members of American Legion Post 63 and the VFW Post 664, both of Clintonville. Friends may call on Saturday from 9 a.m. until time of service at the church. The Beil-Didier Funeral Home, Clintonville, is assisting the family.
