Ione B. Kopitzke, 95, of Edgerton, died on Sunday, Jan. 3, 2016, at St. Mary’s Hospital, Janesville. She was born in Pulaski on April 18, 1920, the daughter of Richard and Bertha (Hoefs) Redlin and was baptized at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Bonduel.
Ione was a graduate of Appleton High School and also attended Stevens Point State Teachers College for a two-year teaching certificate. She married Melvin M. Kopitzke on Oct. 13, 1943, at Mount Olive Lutheran Church, Appleton. He preceded her in death on Oct. 1, 2006. In 1965, she received her bachelor’s degree from Whitewater State Teacher’s College. She taught for many years, starting at a rural school in Greenville and then moved on to Appleton, where she taught for a year. She also taught at Springhill in Whitewater, Powers Lake in Burlington and Milton Junction. She taught for 16 years in the Janesville School District before retiring in 1980.
Ione was a member of Central Lutheran Church, Edgerton.
Ione is survived by three children; Kirk (Betsy) Kopitzke, of Lexington, Kentucky, Darla (Gary) Goetzelman, of New Lenox, Illinois, and Connie Bussey. of Edgerton; a son-in-law, Dan Bussey, of Ridgeway, Iowa; six grandchildren, Kari Hedges, Wendy Hurst, Kelley Hood, Christopher Kopitzke, Jonathan Bussey and Kitri Bussey; great-grandchildren, James,Wyatt, Zackary, Kelty, Benjamin, Ashley, Rebecca, Hudson, Cooper, Nilsen, Owen and Odin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Bertha Redlin; husband, Melvin; a brother, Harold Redlin; and three sisters, Anita Redlin, Freda Rietz and Alice Beyer.
A Memorial Service was held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2016, at Ehlert Funeral Home, 315 Lord St., Edgerton, with the Rev. James Johnson officiating. Visitation was held on Wednesday from 3 p.m. until the time of service at 4 p.m. Burial will take place at a later date at Woodlawn Cemetery, Shawano.
