Ice Bears to compete for state title

March 6 Bay Area 4, Cap City Cougars 0 The Bay Area Ice Bears return to the girls hockey state championship game with a 4-0 shutout of the Cap City Cougars. And, they will face off against Central Wisconsin Storm, the team that beat them last year for the state title. The Ice Bears first got on the board at 5:22 in the first period with a goal from Aisling Buchan with assists from Lily Lyons and Elizabeth Zunker. Ava McDonald scored at 9:25 to put Bay Area up 2-0. A scoring drought lasted throughout the second period and ended with Lyons scoring at 7:58 in the third period; Buchan assisted. The final goal came at 11:31 by Faye Brunke with assists from Julianne Bradford and Emily Bill. Bay Area had 37 shots on goal compared to only nine for Cap City. Reese Spiering had all nine saves. Each team was penalized three times for six minutes. Central Wisconsin Storm advanced to the championship game with a 4-3 overtime win over Eau Claire Area.
