The Wisconsin Association of School Boards plans to honor Ken Harter next month for his 20 years of service on the Oconto Falls School Board, but Harter announced Dec. 11 that he’s decided 20 years is long enough.
Harter announced during the regular monthly school board meeting that he is submitting a notice of non-candidacy. He is one of three board members whose latest three-year terms expire in April.
“Education has been my passion, but I’m happy to say I’m leaving the board in good hands,” Harter said.
He made the announcement moments after it was noted that Harter will be among long-term board members around the state who will be recognized at the annual WASB convention in Milwaukee.
“I’m sure there will be more acknowledgment of your many years, beyond the acknowledgment that you get at the convention,” board President Clint Gardebrecht told Harter.
Harter has also served as president of the FFA Alumni board and secretary of the Oconto County Youth Fair and he was named Friend of the Fairest in 2017 by the county Fairest of the Fair Committee.
Gardebrecht and board Vice President Bryan Baumler are the other board members who will be up for re-election on April 2. Interested candidates have until 5 p.m. Jan. 2 to file nomination papers.
