Brad Rabideau didn’t wait long before diving back into the workforce.
After retiring as Shawano’s police chief Feb. 3, he was sworn in at the end of March as the new police chief for the Stockbridge-Munsee Police Department.
“He will be working full time up at Stockbridge now. That’s going to be nice to have him up there with his experience,” Shawano County Sheriff George Lenzner said. “Our command staff has been helping out a lot up there, so it’ll be nice to have Brad up there, someone with the experience that he does.”
The Stockbridge-Munsee department has been short-staffed for several months.
“When they’re full staff, it makes it easy on us,” Lenzner said. “When they’re low staff, we have to cover their complaints.”
The Stockbridge-Munsee Law Enforcement Division is made up of the police department and the conservation department. Both have overlapping duties, work closely with one and another and rely on each other for assistance when necessary.
The Stockbridge-Munsee Indian Tribe has a cooperative law enforcement agreement with Shawano County. The Stockbridge-Munsee also has contracts with Gresham to provide law enforcement services.
The officers are deputized by Shawano County.
Rabideau served Shawano residents for 26 out of the 29 years he spent in law enforcement. He worked at the Dane County Sheriff’s Department and Algoma Police Department before he joined the Shawano Police Department in 1999.
During his time with the Shawano police, he served as patrol officer, K-9 handler, lieutenant, captain and chief (from 2021-25).
Located at W13455 Camp 14 Road, Bowler, the department includes Rabideau, Molly Welch as administrative assistant, Tyler Schech as officer and Drake Feriancek as officer and school resource officer.
