Lyle Fherman has been selected as grand marshal for the Embarrass Fun Daze parade.
The Embarrass Volunteer Fire Department will host the 26th annual celebration July 26 at Embarrass Park.
Born and raised in Embarrass, Fherman joined the Air Force in 1948. After four years of service, he moved to Menasha and worked in the paper manufacturing industry. He moved back to Embarrass in 1989 with his wife, Rita, and became active on the Zion Lutheran Church Council and a longtime friend of the Embarrass Fire Department.
Fherman resides in Clintonville at the Angelus Retirement Community.
The parade begins at 11 a.m. and proceeds on Main Street from the east end of town to state Highway 22. Cash prizes will be awarded to floats in four categories, including most original, most humorous, best commercial, and best club or church organization entry.
Fun Daze begins with a craft and flea market opening at 8 a.m. A blind-man volleyball tournament and the annual co-ed kickball tournament begin at 9 a.m. Truck Town Polka Sounds will play from noon to 4 p.m. and LED West continues the music from 7 p.m. to midnight in the park.
Other events in the park include a garden tractor pull at 2 p.m., doubles bean bag toss tournament at 2 p.m. and humstrum contest at 3 p.m. There also will be a large inflatable for children. Food and refreshments will be served all day.
Proceeds from Fun Daze will be used for Fire Department activities, including updating equipment and training, and to maintain Fireman’s Park.
