Ewald Richard Wohler, 83, of Shawano, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2013, at a local nursing home.
Born on Nov. 29, 1929, in Chicago, he was the son of the late Ewald J. and Selma (Schwartz) Wohler. After graduating from high school, he enlisted with the United States Army and served his country for two years during the Korean War. On Oct. 14, 1961, he was united in marriage to Irene Grosskopf Korth in Tilleda.
The couple farmed and raised their family in the Tilleda area. When not tending to the farm, Ewald enjoyed doing word searches, puzzles, drawing, constructing models, playing chess, and going to auctions and estate sales. He also enjoyed politics. Ewald was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church in Tilleda and sang in the choir for many years. He was also a member Peace Brotherhood.
Ewald is survived by his wife of 51 years, Irene; three children, Emily (Greg) Norman, Paul (Kim) Wohler and Linda Wohler, all of Madison; five grandchildren; a brother, Robert (Joan) Wohler, of Shawano; and a sister-in-law, Marcella (Martin) Hille, of Tigerton.
Ewald was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Leroy and baby boy Wohler; and two sisters-in-law, Donna Kersten and Germaine Wilhelm.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013, at the Peace Lutheran Church in Tilleda with the Rev. Dennis Nelson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military rites conducted by Gresham American Legion Post 390. Family and friends may call at church on Saturday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service.
Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano is assisting the family with the arrangements.
