A Shawano County man is facing eight felony and misdemeanor charges in connection with an alleged deer poaching case in Waupaca County.
Dylan J. Wolff, 27, of Pulcifer, has been charged with two felony counts and six misdemeanor counts; he is scheduled to make his initial appearance in Waupaca County Circuit Court on June 4.
The Waupaca County District Attorney’s Office filed the charges after DNR conservation wardens confronted Wolff on Jan. 8 at Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery in the Waupaca County Town of Matteson.
According to the criminal complaint, Wolff faces two felony counts of bail jumping, two misdemeanor counts of failure to obtain a deer hunting license, two misdemeanor counts of hunting deer during closed season and two misdemeanor counts of activity during suspension/revocation (second offense within five years).
The felony bail jumping charges stem from a case in Shawano County. Wolff’s past court history includes a conviction for hunting/fishing/trapping after revocation in Shawano County in April.
“The investigation revealed that between the dates of Oct. 17, 2024, and Jan. 8, 2026, Dylan Wolff hunted and fished approximately 174 times during his period of revocation,” according to the criminal complaint. “The illegal hunting and fishing activities occurred in Shawano, Oconto, Waupaca, Brown and Forest counties. Wolff harvested approximately 22 deer and two turkeys, and caught approximately 43 fish.”
According to the criminal complaint, DNR warden Clark Delzer had been monitoring GPS tracker location data for Wolff’s vehicle. Delzer had observed Wolff frequenting the Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery in Embarrass several times in late 2025 and early 2026.
“Warden Delzer suspected (Wolff) was hunting in the area,” according to the complaint. “On Jan. 5, 2026, Delzer stopped at the cemetery and observed the tracks where Wolff had been marking the target vehicle, foot tracks leading into and out of the woods, a bottle of scent killer spray littered on the ground and multiple corn kernels on the ground where Wolff likely parked his vehicle.”
On Jan. 8, Delzer, DNR wardens Kaitlin Kernosky and Paul Hartrick and DNR law enforcement supervisor Andrew Lundin confronted Wolff in the cemetery.
When questioned by Delzer, Wolff initially said he had not killed any deer during the 2025 season and had not been hunting.
He admitted to shooting a buck Dec. 10, 2025, during the muzzleloader season on public land near Pella in Shawano County; shooting a buck with a crossbow on Oct. 23, 2025, on Stockbridge-Munsee trust land behind North Star Mohican Casino in Shawano County; and hunting turkeys on various private properties in Shawano in Shawano and Oconto counties in 2025.
Lundin and Hartrick viewed Wolff’s tree stand near the cemetery on private property in Waupaca County at Groth Family Farms LLC. They found and confiscated a bow and arrow, crossbow and game camera in the stand.
Wolff told the wardens he had hunted deer on the land about a dozen times since 2024.
Delzer interviewed Wolff again March 10 in a parking lot at the Waupaca County Courthouse in Waupaca.
Wolff admitted to hunting and fishing alone. He reportedly shot two antlerless deer Dec. 31, 2025, at Groth Family Farms and registered them with his mother’s harvest authorizations; shot two antlerless deer southwest of the intersection of County Roads V and VV in Oconto County on Dec. 28, 2025; shot an antlerless deer with a compound bow near Pulcifer Road in Oconto County on Dec. 27, 2025; shot a buck during the muzzleloader season in Oconto County; shot small bucks on Dec. 4 and Dec. 9, 2025; shot a buck on private property near Belle Plaine in Shawano County on Oct. 15, 2024; and shot at a bobcat twice in the Shawano Industrial Park on Nov. 18, 2025.
