N.E.W. Credit Union recently announced the 2015 recipients of its Method Vizelka Memorial Scholarship. Vizelka was a 12-year volunteer on the credit union’s board of directors and a firm believer in the power of education.
Every year the credit union makes available a $200 scholarship in his memory to a graduating senior from each of the five Oconto County high schools. A scholarship is also offered to one student from Shawano, Marinette or Brown county.
N.E.W. Credit Union maintains student credit unions at the high schools in Oconto Falls, Suring and Oconto, and credit union staff members make financial literacy presentations at area schools as well.
This year’s recipients are Marly Thomson, of Oconto High School, daughter of Dale and Heather Thomson, attending Emory University in Atlanta in the field of math and computer science; Elizabeth Coopman, of Oconto Falls High School, daughter of Brian and Kris Coopman, attending the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in the field of business administration; Breanna Tienor, Suring High School, daughter of Jeff Tienor and Roxanna Tienor, attending UW-Stevens Point in the field of physical therapy; and Sam DeRuyter, West De Pere High School, son of Tim and Lynette DeRuyter, attending UW-Madison in the field of journalism.
Students at high schools in Lena and Gillett did not submit applications.
