Clintonville New Beginnings seeks funding for shelves

A fundraising campaign is under way to help New Beginnings Community Thrift Store in Clintonville purchase 11 gondola shelving units. The units are wheeled, can be adjusted to different heights and can accommodate a wide variety of shelves and bins. They would provide about 60 feet of flexible shelving that the store needs. “The lack of shelving units is the one item that holds us back from increasing and maximizing volume on the display floors,” New Beginnings board chairman Mike Hellweg said. “I have talked to the owner and he will take $1,000 for everything.” Hellweg said he has offered to use his truck and trailer to pick up the shelving units in Milwaukee and deliver them to the store. “Now, we just need people willing to help us with the cost of the units themselves,” he said. New Beginnings, at 106 N. Main St., is challenging all area churches, civic organizations and individuals to pledge whatever they can to this effort; $100 has already been donated. Checks can be made out to New Beginnings with the memo “Shelving.” Donations should be sent to P.O. Box 554, Waupaca, WI 54981. Donors will receive a receipt for the tax-deductible contribution. The store also is looking for more volunteers, volunteer coordinator Brenda Hansen said. “We are looking for people willing to help with customer care in the showrooms, with pricing and set-up in the staging area, and with sorting and recycling in the donation processing center,” she said.
