The Clintonville American Legion baseball team beat Chilton 2-1 to open the Class A state tournament Wednesday in Viroqua.
Nick Hoegen gave Clintonville a 1-0 lead in the second inning with a double that brought home Austin Paisar, who had singled.
Chilton responded in the fourth, getting a run from Tim Kolbe, on an error, to tie the game.
Austin Paisar scored the winning run on a bases-loaded walk in the top of the seventh.
In the bottom of the inning, Chilton’s John Winkel hit a fly out, pitcher Jansen Van Daalwyk struck out Brett Casper and Jacob Schaller was caught stealing second after reaching base on an error.
Van Daalwyk pitched the full game, allowing one run on five hits and striking out three.
Hoegen finished two for three with a double and an RBI.
Paiser was two for three. Van Daalwyk also had a hit.
Chilton’s Adam Klein pitched 6 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on five hits. He also struck out two and walked one. Tom Kolbe pitched the final 1/3 of an inning.
Clintonville will play at 5 p.m. Thursday against Wisconsin Dells, who beat Nekoosa 4-0 Wednesday, in the double-elimination tourney.
