Oconto County Sheriff’s Patrol Lt. Chad Angus has been promoted to chief deputy of the department, Sheriff Todd Skarban announced at the Sept. 19 meeting of the Oconto County Board.
“I’ve known Chad my entire law enforcement career. We became fast friends when we were road patrol deputies together,” Skarban said. “He’s steady, he’s trusted, he’ll always tell the truth even if you don’t want to hear it. It’s important for this position to be able to have that kind of feedback.”
Skarban said he had a similar relationship with former Chief Deputy Darren Laskowski, who retired earlier this summer.
For his part, Angus said he is “honored and excited” about taking on the new position.
“I’d like to start out by thanking the sheriff for this opportunity and I’m grateful for the opportunity and will work very hard to fulfill all the obligations that the position requires,” he said.
A lifelong resident of Oconto County, Angus said he started his career as an Oconto Falls police officer in 1998, then moved to the Lena Police Department before being hired by the sheriff’s department in 2004.
In 2010, he was assigned to be the handler for the first of his three K-9 officers.
“I learned a lot about trust, respect, obligation and teamwork, which helped me develop leadership skills,” Angus said.
He was promoted to what was his current position in 2022, which included supervision of the dispatch center and coordinator of the K-9 program.
“Throughout my career, I’ve been blessed to work alongside so many great co-workers, and I’ve learned so much from them, and that’s really what has prepared me for this role today,” Angus said.
