A disastrous five-goal second period spelled defeat for Shawano/Bonduel as they ended up losing 9-3 to Northland Pines on Jan.11.
The teams battled to a 2-2 tie after the first period with Shawano’s goals coming from Karson Stoss and Gavin Hundt (with an assist from Stoss).
Trailing 8-2 halfway through the third period, Blake Knope scored a third goal for the Hawks. A final ninth goal by the Eagles came at 10:59 in the third period.
Tyson Lyons worked the entire game between the pipes and made 14 saves 23 shots on goal. Shawano/Bonduel had 25 shots on goal.
Both teams were penalized 12 minutes, with Shawano called for five infractions and Northland Pines for six.
Tomahawk 5, Antigo 2
The Antigo and Wittenberg-Birnamwood co-op boys hockey team lost 5-2 to Tomahawk, thanks to a three-goal second period by the Hatchets.
Tomahawk took a 1-0 lead early in the first period. But, toward the end of the period, Wittenberg-Birnamwood’s trusty Owen Dickman scored on a power play to even the score.
Antigo trailed 4-1 going into the third period when Dickman scored again, with help from Eli Kassler.
Tomahawk, leading 4-2, added a final goal at 16:57.
Antigo was penalized five times for 10 minutes, while Tomahawk served 12 minutes on six infractions.
Antigo only managed 11 shots on goal, while Tomahawk had 65 shots.
