The Shawano County Arts Council and the Box in the Wood Theatre Guild is presenting its annual community gift, “Star Spangled Christmas,” in December at the Mielke Arts Center.
The performances are free and no reservations are required, but seating will be on a first come, first served basis. The show will be performed at 7 p.m. Dec. 5-6 and 2 p.m. Dec. 7-8. The lobby opens one hour prior, and the theater 30 minutes prior. Patrons needing special assistance will be seated first.
The show will launch the holiday season with a combination of traditional carols, contemporary music, dramatic and humorous skits and dance. The show is written and directed for the fourth year by sisters Kay Kuester Doran and Mary-Beth Kuester. Miriam Nelson is the musical director, and Debbie Welch is the accompanist. The show is supported by a grant from Thrivent Financial.
A large cast ranging in age from 4 to 90 will present excerpts from “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” “Miracle on 34th Street,” “The Christmas Story” from St. Luke, along with patriotic and seasonal song and dance. Children who participated in the summer children’s theater workshop are joining Mielke regulars to offer the community this holiday gift.
A freewill offering will be donated to Happily Ever After No Kill Animal Shelter, Shawano Humane Society and Healing Hearts Pet Hospice.
