Bonduel High School golfer Ben Shoup shot an 84 to finish 14th Tuesday at the WIAA Division 2 sectional at Crystal Springs Golf Course in Seymour.
“After a pretty rough first couple of holes, Ben recovered and fought hard for the rest of the round,” coach Dan Anderson said. “The wind was very gusty, the worst kind for a golfer, and the scores reflected it.”
Shoup’s 84 was four strokes off the individual qualifying mark of 80.
“Making it to sectionals is an accomplishment in itself and I know he enjoyed his day today, even though it didn’t turn out exactly as he had hoped,” Anderson said.
Wittenberg-Birnamwood’s Brant Linke shot a 99, finishing tied for 60th. Teammate Kyle Adamski shot a 106 and finished 71st.
“Both Brant and Kyle started out well, parring the first hole, but as the round went on the wind and course got the better of them,” Wittenberg-Birnamwood coach Chris Bartletti said. “To their credit, they both ground it out even when they knew that moving on was no longer in the picture.”
Winnebago Lutheran Academy’s Chris Colla was the meet medalist, with a round of 75.
Marinette won the meet with a team score of 319.
