2 killed in rollover accident

Two people were killed Tuesday morning in a single-vehicle crash in the town of Richmond, the Shawano County Sheriff’s Department said. The initial investigation indicates that a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado was westbound on state Highway 29 near County Road MMM shortly after 8 a.m. when it lost control, crossed the median and rolled over. Sally Schmandt, a 79-year-old female passenger from Marion, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, Dennis Schmandt, 73, also of Marion, was ejected from the vehicle. He was being taken to Shawano airport to be airlifted when he died of his injuries, the Sheriff’s Department said. One eastbound lane on Highway 29 was closed for the duration of the incident. The accident remains under investigation. Assisting the Sheriff’s Department at the scene were the Stockbridge-Munsee Police Department, Wisconsin State Patrol, Shawano Area Fire Department and the Shawano Ambulance Service.
