The weekly summer community market in Gillett is really getting popular this year, the Gillett City Council was told July 11.
“We have to have at least 30 vendors now every Thursday,” said Shannon Stoner, director of the Gillett Public Library. “They sell everything from homemade crafts to soaps to homemade signs. It’s really amazing how well that has grown.”
The community market is held from 5-7 p.m. Thursdays at Ebenreiter Community Square, between the library at 200 E. Main St. and the community center in the former bank building next door. Plans are for the market to run weekly through Oct. 24.
During her monthly report, Stoner said she and Police Chief Shane Breitenbach are hard at work planning the community’s National Night Out observance, scheduled for 5:30-7:30 p.m. Aug. 6 around the library and community square.
“This year is probably going to be bigger than last year,” Stoner said. “We’ve got (musical duo) Homegrown performing again, the Tattooed Manikin doing face painting. O.J. is selling pies; taco truck will be selling tacos. The VFW will be doing ice cream; we’re having a casserole contest for a $5 entry. We’re having our dunk tank. We’re having Eagle III (rescue helicopter). We’re having our EMS vehicles, and we’re also having our raffle, and all proceeds this year are going to our wonderful Gillett Fire Department.”
