Extension offers Planning Ahead program

To help community members prepare for the future and ease the burden on loved ones, UW-Madison Division of Extension is offering Planning Ahead, a free educational program designed to guide participants through the key aspects of advance planning.

Planning Ahead is will be held Tuesdays from 2-3 p.m. via Zoom beginning Nov. 3 and continuing through Dec. 15

Planning Ahead helps adults organize important information and make thoughtful decisions about future health care, financial matters, personal property and end-of-life wishes. The program provides practical tools and resources that can help families avoid uncertainty and difficult decision-making during times of crisis or loss.

“Planning Ahead is truly a gift to those we care about most,” said Katie Daul, human development and relationships educator with UW-Extension Oconto County. “When we communicate our wishes and organize important information, we reduce stress for our loved ones and give them greater confidence in carrying out our choices.”

Through a series of engaging sessions, participants will explore topics including:

• Advance care planning and health care decisions

• Financial responsibilities and important documents

• Legal considerations and record keeping

• Distribution of personal possessions

• End-of-life planning

• Grief, loss and family communication

The course includes a comprehensive planning workbook that helps participants gather and organize essential information in one place. Many participants find that breaking the process into manageable steps makes planning less intimidating and more achievable.
